About this event

This year marks a significant milestone for Suki and Hugh Gallery as it celebrates 10 years of showcasing exceptional contemporary art and design in the heart of Bungendore. To commemorate a decade of creativity, community, and culture, the gallery is proud to feature a new exhibition by acclaimed documentary photographer and the gallery’s inaugural exhibiting artist, Ali Nasseri.

Founded in 2015 by Susan Foxlee (Suki) and Sam Cooper (Hugh), the gallery has become a cornerstone of the local and regional arts scene, known for its commitment to thoughtful curation and support of both emerging and established artists.

Nasseri’s new exhibition, ‘Boredom Doesn’t Exist’ reflects on the evolving nature of identity, displacement, and resilience— born in Iran and displaced at the age of seven, two years after the 1979 revolution, themes of liberty, belonging, and quiet resilience thread through his practice—not overtly, but through poetic inference. In this body of work, freedom takes the shape of play, of laughter, of water glittering in the sun: joy discovered in the fertile space between boredom and imagination.

Shot exclusively on medium format Kodak film, each image is a carefully composed meditation on time and presence. The slow, deliberate process—just 10 exposures per roll—demands patience and precision, imbuing every frame with intention. In contrast to the infinite disposability of digital capture, Nasseri’s photographs feel rare, tangible, and enduring.
