As the only heritage listed town in NSW, Braidwood is in a unique position to promote tourism to the region. With a rich history, established tourism infrastructure and strong collaboration between local government and businesses, we intend to launch the annual Braidwood Festival of Lights in June 2025. The event will showcase the fascinating history of this region through light projections and experiences, with a focus on immersive storytelling. The light projections at each location will be themed, consistent with the nature of the heritage buildings. There will be a range of supporting activation, including guided tours, live music and local food and wine experiences.
The Braidwood Festival of Lights will drive significant tourism from across NSW, ACT and Victoria during winter, contributing to the economic recovery of Braidwood and surrounding villages in the wake of bushfires, floods and COVID-19. We believe this has the potential to become one of the largest NSW regional tourism events, with a unique opportunity to combine history, art, local produce, and storytelling in an event that appeals to all demographics (from young families to retirees).
