Braidwood has been named the Canberra Region’s Top Tourism Town in the ‘Small Town’ category and will progress to the National Top Tourism Awards, to be held at Parliament House in September.
Presented by the Canberra Region Tourism Industry Council, the annual awards showcase the value of tourism to the towns and communities across Australia and celebrate the diversity and outstanding regional destinations of our country.
After an extensive judging process by a panel of tourism experts, Braidwood was named the winner by Jonathan Kobus, Executive Branch Manager of Visit Canberra, at the Canberra Region Top Tourism Town Awards 2023 at the Vibe Hotel on 26th July.
“This award recognises the extraordinary range of enriching experiences that Braidwood offers to visitors,” said Mayor Kenrick Winchester of Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council.
“It is a celebration of the outstanding efforts of the tourism operators, small businesses, arts community, primary producers and the many volunteers who contribute to our visitor economy.” Mayor Winchester continued. “I particularly acknowledge the close partnership between QPRC’s tourism and economic development team and the devoted volunteers who run the Braidwood Visitor Information Centre.”
Conveniently located between the nation’s capital, Canberra, and the pristine coastline of Southern NSW, the heritage-listed town of Braidwood is the perfect country destination for those looking for a slice of tranquillity.
Bustling with life, yet surrounded by Australian history, Braidwood offers the ultimate country getaway complete with stories of bushrangers, gold seekers and more, beautiful sun-dappled walks and unspoiled national parks, award-winning cool climate wines and handcrafted treasures, and unforgettable farm stays and guest houses, all set against the beautiful backdrop of the Southern Tablelands.
In addition to winning the Canberra Region Top Tourism Town Award, Braidwood has qualified as a finalist in the upcoming National Awards in September, where it will compete against towns from across the nation including Huskisson (NSW), Airlie Beach (QLD) and Exmouth (WA).
