Housed in a beautifully preserved 1876 building, the Queanbeyan Museum houses an interesting collection of memorabilia from the area.
The Museum has themed displays including Queanbeyan’s Story Begins – the Ngambri people, early exploration and settlers, the ‘From Settlement to Town’ display featuring the railway, telephones, shopkeepers, plumbers, builders, barbers, schooling and courthouses. Bushrangers, Villains and Larrikins – local bushranging from the convict and gold rush eras, The Old Blacksmith’s Shop – as it was in the 1900s, That’s Entertainment – featuring cameras, radios, fiddles and accordians, Phonographs and Photographs – spotlight on businessman and entrepreneur Theo Cooper, Queanbeyan Medical Practices – featuring an original iron lung and historical mural by acclaimed artist Margaret Hadfield and much, much more.
