Neil Dickinson is a sculptor who graduated from the ANU Canberra School of Art in 1983 and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in (Sculpture) from the University of Tasmania. He was born in Canberra, educated at Narrabundah College and has lived in the Queanbeyan region for 14 years.
Since graduating from university, he has worked as a professional sculptor producing many public artworks that can be seen around Canberra and the region. Some notable public artworks include ‘Morty’ the snail, ‘Queany’ the platypus on the Queanbeyan River, the Kangaroos in Amaroo, Pelicans in Yerrabi Pond and the Wombats for the Wingecarribee Council in Bowral.
In 1988, he was a founding member of the ‘Bronze Works’ in Fyshwick and ran many workshops in bronze casting. He has also taught sculpture in the ACT and Queanbeyan through Adult Education Programs as well as private classes.
Neil’s diversity can be seen in his many large public artworks of animals through to his private commissions of surreal expressionism using many forms of mediums including bronze, steel and ferro concrete structures. Central to his work is a belief in the nobility of the human form and the celebration of the constant struggle with all forms of oppression – the philosophy of inner spiritual growth in the face of materialist aggression.’
He currently works and teaches from his studio and gallery located at The Ridgeway.
