The Queanbeyan-Palerang Arts Trail is back this October in Braidwood, Bungendore and Queanbeyan. Explore the galleries and home studios of local artists and experience the wealth of talent and creativity in the region first hand as you meet the artists in their creative environments, ranging from ceramics and glassworks to paintings, textiles, jewellery and much, much more.
The highly anticipated trail takes place over three separate weekends in October, giving you a chance to get out and about to experience as much of the region and its artistry as possible.

Queanbeyan Community Choir
Queanbeyan Community Choir will present “Music Speaks”, a free concert on Sunday afternoon 19th October from 2pm at Axis Youth Centre, Queanbeyan Park. Conductor Michael and accompanist Sam will lead the choir bringing songs that speak of courage, hope, freedom, friendship and love, followed by afternoon tea. No bookings needed, gold coin donations given to Rise Above Cancer Relief Queanbeyan. This friendly local choir meets for singing on Saturday afternoons at Queanbeyan Leagues Club and welcomes new members.

Echo Theatre at Rusten House
Open rehearsal in Rusten’s garden of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Echo Theatre group will stage open rehearsals in the Rusten House garden of A Midsummer Night’s Dream throughout Sunday 19th Oct, in preparation for its summer season at The Q Performing Arts Centre QBN. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy the ambience of this heritage site.

Queanbeyan Library – Karen Vickery in Conversation
Join distinguished actor, director and arts educator Karen Vickery for an exclusive in-conversation event. With over 40 years’ experience performing and directing for Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir, ACT Hub and more, Karen brings insight, passion and storytelling expertise to the stage. Recently involved in King Lear at The Q Performing Arts Centre, she will discuss her artistic journey, behind-the-scenes experiences and contributions to Canberra’s arts community. Interviewed by Liz Lanford, this is a rare chance to connect with a leading theatre practitioner. Bookings essential.

Sculpture Studio
Wojciech Pietranik welcomes you to the sculpture studio to see his work alongside that of Berendina de Ruiter and her students. This year we celebrate Berendina’s enormous contribution as a sculptor and teacher. She died in March 2025. See her wonderful work in marble, sandstone, bronze and clay – a testament to her life as an artist.

Queanbeyan Quilters Inc.
Founded in 1984 by a small group of keen needlewomen, Queanbeyan Quilters has grown to around 40 members, including juniors. The group meets regularly at Letchworth Community Centre to stitch, share ideas and learn new skills. Visitors and new members of all ages and genders are always welcome in this supportive and encouraging environment. Quilts and textiles will be on display and for sale, with demonstrations running throughout the Arts Trail weekend.

Michaela Laurie Studio
Michaela works from her studio at home which she has always called “the shed” in the hills south of Queanbeyan. When she looks outside, she see mountains and hills, creeks and dams, her garden and paddocks. It is a very special place she feels lucky to live in. Her chosen medium is a mixture of gouache, coloured pencil, pigment ink and watercolour, combining to create layers and detail.
Looking at vintage and antique objects is engrained into Michaela's life. As a very young child, her mother would take her with her when she viewed auctions in Sydney. Michaela thinks she has always preferred objects with history, a certain patina, a romance and often with sentimental attachment. She uses objects which she loves, not only in her own home, but objects she sees in her travels, while shopping, and those she sees at auction houses to inspire her creative work. Another love is birds. As she grows older, her love and fascination of birds increases. She creates magical still life arrangements by combining the things she loves - with the creatures she loves. A little whimsy is always thrown in for good measure and fun.
In her studio, you can find Michaela's original work, reproduction prints, acrylic blocks, greeting cards and 2025 calendars.

The Queanbeyan Hive
The Hive comes alive for the Arts Trail with makers, demonstrations and exhibitions. Watch silversmithing, leatherwork, screen printing and weaving in action, and join a collaborative mural workshop in the rear garden. Inside, Real and Imagined showcases Ingrid Ferguson’s semi-abstract paintings and Lea Palij’s Flora Nouveau series, reinterpreting the beauty of Australian flora. With food and drinks available, visitors can relax under the garden pergola between exploring art, meeting makers and experiencing the Hive’s creative energy.

Schwartz Glass Studio
Glass artists Rob and Rose-Mary share a home studio where they work across hotshop, kiln forming and neon bending, alongside teaching roles at Canberra Glassworks and in education. Both ANU School of Art graduates, they divide their time between their studio and Glassworks, developing a sustainable arts practice. Their open studio will feature new exhibition pieces, production works and the ever-popular blown bauble, with sales available. Visitors can also enjoy cool refreshments in the garden

Sue Wilmington Studio
Sue is a multi-medium artist who transforms scrap steel into striking sculptures, with horseshoes a favourite material. Her creations range from orbs and pears to a whimsical baby giraffe, each left to weather naturally and develop a rich patina that enhances their organic feel. For the Arts Trail, Sue will exhibit her works in the open air on her small farm in Googong. Visitors can explore the display, enjoy the rural setting, and purchase unique pieces.

Enjoy art and food by the riverside as Queanbeyan Art Society and Cartel Taqueria join forces. See traditional and contemporary works by local and regional artists, including the Black and White and Young Artists exhibitions, with all works for sale. An outdoor display links the gallery to the restaurant, where you can enjoy 20% off food and drinks all weekend. Live music and artists painting at their easels add to the atmosphere. Nullarbor Nights Knitwear
The Nullarbor Nights Knitwear studio and workshop has been in the same location in Queanbeyan for over 18 years. It is a working knitwear studio where the garments are designed and fabric machine-knitted on-site, using mostly natural fibres, and in some cases hand-dyed. The studio will have garments to purchase alongside accessories, such as scarves, necklaces, earrings and brooches, all handmade on site. Visitors will have the chance to see the knitting machines that produce the fabric for Nullarbor Nights Knitwear garments, as well as see and hear about the other parts of garment production. The winning Fleece to Fashion garment will also be on display. Sales of hand painted Jewellery, artworks and garments are available in the private showroom.

Fernleigh Park Community Hall
Local artists Daniel Bartholomaeus (DanBartArt) and Samantha Taulealeausumai showcase and sell their work in the Fernleigh Park Community Hall, with refreshments provided by the Queanbeyan CWA (profits to charity). A car boot sale adds the chance to pick up a bargain, making Fernleigh Park a lively stop for art lovers.

No Name Lane Open Air Gallery

Cheryl is a natural history artist, painting plants and insects in watercolour, with a focus on Australian natives. Matthew Curtis and Harriet Schwarzrock Glass Artists
Matthew Curtis and Harriet Schwarzrock run a vibrant glassblowing studio in a converted biscuit factory in Queanbeyan. Browse glass tableware and prototypes or join the annual “trade table” exchanging glass for local honey, baked goods, or wine. See Matthew’s sculptural works from repurposed architectural glass, then explore Harriet’s plasma vault with interactive neon illumination, aurora-like plasma encased within blown glass forms. Experience behind-the-scenes flame-working and neon-bending demonstrations where traditional craft meets experimental light art.

Nellie Hamilton Forecourt Projections
This final instalment of the Acknowledgement to Country artworks project features projected works by First Nations creatives from across the region. Launch of the Projected Artworks will be held on Thursday 2 October, 5.30–7.30 pm, with participating artists in attendance. The works can then be viewed each night at sun down.

Diwali Lantern Festival
QPRC and the Queanbeyan Multicultural Centre have once again teamed up to create a bigger and better free Diwali celebration for all to enjoy. A highlight is the lantern parade, starting around 8.30pm Saturday, when people of all ages and backgrounds walk the showground with lanterns in a joyful celebration of light. Everyone is welcome to join with a battery-powered lantern or light. Don’t have one? Come early and make a lantern for free at the Southern Tablelands Art workshop space from 6 pm.

Rusten House Arts Centre
Step into Rusten House for a vibrant mix of exhibitions and performance. Leigh Penton (Changing the Narrative) reframes photography through bold manipulations of light and colour, while Judith Tokley (Ghosts in the Gum) captures the haunting beauty of snow gums through stylised acrylic paintings. Kahli McLeod (Shared Spaces) paints the native birds and animals of Braidwood with detail. A pop-up by Sarah Richards of Marrawuy Journeys offers contemporary Aboriginal artworks and wellbeing pieces. Outdoors, on Saturday Echo Theatre rehearses A Midsummer Night’s Dream live in the garden.

Art by Anders is the curated gallery and shop of renowned Queanbeyan artist Anders Mykkeltvedt. Specialising in sketches and acrylic art of live music performances, Anders' work is vibrant and compelling. In addition to being a gallery space, the building is home to a treasure trove of motorbikes, mid-century modern homewares and clothing. Art practice and discussion will be underway during the arts trail. Input from participants will be encouraged with all welcome.

Bunker Arts Studio
The Bunker Arts studio, established in 2016, facilitates monthly concerts and visual art sessions, and is the base for the Bunker Studio artists. The art sessions cater for an individual’s visual expression. Studio artists are regularly guided through exercises exploring the basic principles of painting and drawing. Arts trail visitors are welcome to observe and chat with artists at work, many of whom will have their work on display.
