The 2023 season at The Q continues to inspire, entertain and delight audiences. The first half of the season has already drawn enthusiastic crowds, so we’re excited to see what else is planned for the remainder of the year.
This is the 16th year for the iconic Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre. It’s a season that has followed significant disruption and global challenges, so it has been widely welcomed.
It’s also the second year for the Q the Locals program, which aims to profile the incredible talent – writers, musicians, performers, comedians – from our region. In fact, Artistic Director Jordan Best is currently hard at work programming next year’s Q the Locals season, expected to be announced in December 2023.
In the meantime, here’s a little taste of what’s coming up in August.
Legacies
At this special Q the Locals production, you can dive back to 1868 for a maritime journey like no other. Based on the true story of the Arran Stowaways, Legacies is a powerful tale featuring original music and storytelling.
Written by local playwright and actor, Rachel Pengilly, Legacies tells the story of six young stowaways on a Scottish ship in a compelling, visually spectacular production.
When: 2pm and 7.30pm from 2 to 5 August 2023
Coil
Remember walking through the video store doors and dropping your rentals in the return slot? Then heading to the shelves to select your next 7-day or overnight movies? Those were the good old days, right? For today’s streamers, this is either a nostalgic memory or a story told by parents.
Coil relives these video store glory days in a clever mix of theatre and movie-making – something called ‘live cinema’. Described as playful and warm-hearted, you’ll fall in love with this immersive and witty cinema experience.
When: 7.30pm on 8 and 9 August 2023
JUST Live on Stage!
The Q welcomes JUST (tricking, annoying, stupid, crazy, disgusting, shocking, doomed) LIVE ON STAGE! Based on the curiously wonderful JUST books by Andy Griffiths, this play brings characters wildly to life on stage. There may be talking vegetables, invisibility pills, loud farts and vomiting dogs – so strap yourselves in!
Best bring the kids along to this one – it’s suggested for ages 8 to 12.
